Firm History
While our firm may be new to you, we are a long time Seattle firm originally established in 1956 as a partnership between Lawrence Hennings, William L. Maltman, and John R. Weber as a general practice law firm. The firm represented individuals and businesses primarily as a "general civil and trial practice" as it was known then. The firm’s home was in the Northern Life Tower.
In the early 1960’s, the firm relocated to the Central Building on 3rd Avenue between Columbia and Marion. In 1977, Fredric D. Reed became a partner and the firm was re-named as Hennings, Maltman, Weber & Reed. In 1980, the firm again relocated to the Norton Building on 2nd Avenue between Marion and Columbia which remains our present day home.
The next members to join the firm, in order, were Douglass A. North, Douglas W. Ahrens, Michael C. Malnati, Linda Lau, Michael J. Longyear,, James A. Jackson, and Gregory M. Miller. Two former members, Linda Lau and Douglass A. North, have become Superior Court judges. In 2001, the firm changed to its present name of Reed, Longyear, Malnati & Ahrens.
The general emphasis of the firm's practice has remained unchanged over the many years and we continue to represent individuals and their families and businesses in the same spirit of integrity established by our founding members.
